Vilasrao Salunkhe Chair

Late Vilasrao Salunkhe, a visionary, promoted the concept of equitable water distribution through his work in the area of water rights at the grassroots levels and termed it as JAN PANCHAYAT. As a tribute to his work and his dream of building consensus among various political parties on equitable water distribution, RMP has constituted a chair in his memory. This unique arrangement will serve as platform for all water related research activities, studies and will enable grassroots experiences to be dovetailed in the policy framework of the water sector.

Water Governance
Governance is the exercise of economic, political and administrative authority to manage a country’s affair at all levels. It comprises the mechanism, process and institutions through which citizens and groups articulate their interests, exercise their legal rights, meet their obligations and solve their differences (United Nations Development Program 2001.) Water Governance refers to the range of political, social, economic and administrative systems that are in place to develop and manage water resources and the delivery of water services at different levels of the society. (Global Water Partnership 2002.)
